On view until March 1st, 2026.
Currently on view at Arch Enemy Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is "ECHOES FROM THE MIRROR UNIVERSE," the debut solo feature by Galician pop-surrealist Perrilla. Based in A Coruña in the Northwest of Spain, Perrilla creates familiar, whimsical, yet emotionally charged images, featuring characters and scenes from what she calls THE MIRROR UNIVERSE: “a magical and anachronistic place without borders, where emotions become characters and coexist with fantastical creatures.”
In Perrilla’s world, legged and winged caterpillar-snakes join giant one-eyed kittens, pterodactyls, and angel-demons, who swirl around pink-haired, cherub-faced girls like friendly sidekicks full of fantasy, vulnerability, and play. “In THE MIRROR UNIVERSE, the treasure of my childhood memories intertwines with the experiences of adulthood, with my fantasies, dreams, and fears as if in a cosmic cocktail shaker, resulting as an elixir composed of strange species, embodied emotions, encrypted messages, oracles and adventures…maaany adventures.”
Perrilla (b. 1981) studied Graphic Arts at IES Calvo Stelo and Illustration at the Pablo Picasso School of Arts, but she is self-taught with regard to oil painting and felted wool sculpture. Perrilla has exhibited in galleries across Spain, Portugal, the US, and the UK, and she creates illustrations for children’s books, posters, workshops, and animations.
