Luke Chueh's brilliant solo exhibition, "Negative Space," is currently on view until August 1st, 2026 at Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles, California.

How can a single bear contain so much of what it feels like to be human? With no complicated scenes or unnecessary detail, Luke manages in each painting to capture the profound sadness, utter hilarity and overwhelming love that fill our own experiences. His characters act as mirrors reflecting back whatever parts of ourselves we bring to the canvas that day. Sometimes it's laughter. Sometimes delight. Sometimes a deep sense of sadness or unease. Sometimes heartache. In this strange world that can be painful, absurd, and beautiful all at the same time, his work is a reminder that all these truths can and do coexist.

About the show the artist shares, "Negative Space is less a thematic exhibition than a reflection on a visual language I've found myself returning to throughout more than twenty years of painting," Chueh explains. "I've long been interested in the emotional potential of what might outwardly appear as 'empty space'—the way silence, isolation, and restraint can shape the psychological atmosphere of an image.”
