Tomas Harker

Tomas Harker is a London-based artist whose paintings examine how meaning is shaped, distorted, and obscured within an increasingly mediated contemporary world. Blurring the boundaries between reality, mythology, and the uncanny, his work uses fairytale-like imagery not as an escape from reality, but as a way of approaching the hidden systems, anxieties, and associations beneath everyday experience.

Drawing from the fragmented visual languages of popular culture and contemporary image circulation, Harker constructs paintings that feel simultaneously playful and disquieting. Mythical forms, symbols, and unexpected references collide in works that resist fixed interpretation, encouraging viewers to form connections between seemingly unrelated ideas. Rather than presenting fantasy as an alternative reality, Harker uses the unreal as a means of questioning the one we already inhabit, creating imaginative thought experiments that reflect the uncertainty, instability, and strange logic of contemporary life.
