Glenn Dean's "Passages"

Glenn Dean's "Passages"

October 10th - 31st, 2026.

Opening on Saturday, October 10th, 2026 at Maxwell Alexander Gallery in Pasadena, California is artist Glenn Dean's sublime and must see solo exhibition of new paintings, "Passages."

Working primarily throughout the American West, Dean paints on location across deserts, mountains, and coastal landscapes, balancing direct field studies with larger studio compositions. In recent years, he has increasingly incorporated figures into his paintings, exploring the subtle relationship between people and the environments they inhabit.

In "Passages," Dean brings these interests into sharper focus. Beginning with an exploration of Canyon de Chelly, the exhibition expands into a broader meditation on the relationship between people and the landscapes of the West. Riders on horseback move through canyons, deserts, and open country, their figures integrated so naturally into the surrounding terrain that they become another element of the landscape.

These works, and Dean's entire oeuvre, are some of the purest glimpses of art that we might ever have the pleasure of witnessing. Dean is able to divine and capture light directly onto his canvases like no other.
