Dennis Scholl

Berlin-based artist Dennis Scholl creates richly layered, narrative paintings that invite viewers into a surreal world where bodies, plants, and landscapes intertwine. His artistic evolution began with monochrome pencil drawings before gradually incorporating color: first through chalk and crayon, then pastels and colored pencils, culminating in his full transition to oil painting in 2017.

Scholl constructs his works like visual collages, weaving together fragmented figures, organic forms, and unexpected materials into intricate compositions meant to be explored slowly. His characters, who are strange, humorous, and deeply expressive, inhabit dreamlike environments where human forms blend seamlessly with nature lit by fire like spectres.

To enter Scholl’s universe is to encounter a living, pulsating ecosystem of visible and invisible connections.
