On view until November 29th.
Currently on view at Thinkspace Projects in Los Angeles, California is artist Cinta Vidal's marvelous solo exhibition, "Inward."
Cinta Vidal (b. 1982 Spain) was originally trained as a theater painter, but when the illusionary space of the stage became too confining, she turned to urban landscapes and used large facades and cityscapes as canvases in which she dissolves perspective, space and time. Vidal uses acrylic paint on canvas and paper to create what she describes as her “un-gravity constructions.” She paints each artwork with close attention to detail, fully realizing each structure and the unfolding scenes within. Vidal’s combination of saturation, detail, and balance work together to allow the viewer’s gaze to absorb these various and often intersecting viewpoints.
For Vidal, depicting macro and micro levels of inverted apartment buildings and city structures illustrate the various ways the world is experienced by a mass population. Architecture and landscapes intertwine in a subtle and delicate way, emphasizing the simultaneity and close connection between the human relationships of her protagonists.
