BIO
Michael Ward is a self-taught artist based in Costa Mesa, California, whose paintings transform overlooked moments of everyday life into quietly powerful works of observation. Influenced early on by Photorealism, Ward began painting from his own photographs in the 1980s before returning to a dedicated studio practice in the 1990s. Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, he creates highly detailed compositions that explore memory, place, and the subtle emotional resonance hidden within ordinary environments.
Using photographs gathered over more than four decades, Ward’s work often focuses on houses, streets, and familiar structures that feel both deeply personal and universally recognizable. His paintings balance realism with abstraction, inviting viewers to slow down and reconsider the unnoticed beauty embedded within daily life. Through careful observation and masterful composition, Ward reveals the grace and mystery quietly present in the world around us.
